FAQs

Q: Who will be teaching mindfulness to my child(ren)?

A: All services are taught by a mental health professional with a master's degree in psychology, significant clinical and non-clinical experience in working with children + training in mindfulness. While this is not a therapy or a mental health service, the teacher has great experience in teaching mindfulness to both children + adults.

Q: Isn't mindfulness just meditation? I don't think my child can sit long enough to do this practice!

A: Surprise! Mindfulness is a large set of skills that includes breath work, mindful movement, skills for learning to notice + observe with our 5 senses, & much, much more! While there are some elements of meditation as a part of mindfulness, it is certainly a broader spectrum of wonderful things to learn to help reduce stress, anger, anxiety, & improving frustration tolerance.

Q: Do you accept health insurance?

A: Unfortunately, no. Mindfulness is not (yet!) covered by insurance. We hope one day, as research is proving how effective & useful it can be to help almost anyone.

Q: How do I know if this would help my child or if we should stick to therapy?

A: In short, no promises can be made that any type of service will help your child(ren). This service is not intended to treat clinical behavioral issues. It is most appropriate for families that would like to help their child(ren) find ways to reduce their stress, anxiety + improve frustration tolerance. If your child has significant behavioral challenges, clinically diagnosed anxiety, depression, or any other type of mental health diagnosis that requires clinical treatment, then this is not an appropriate service, and you should continue seeking appropriate clinical care.

Q: Can I participate during the sessions?

A: While parent(s)/caregiver(s) are not required to watch, they are welcome to watch + learn. In fact, it is encouraged for the parent/caregiver to watch + observe what their child(ren) are learning so that they can help them practice throughout the week!

Q: What all is included?

A: Apart from what is listed above, each child will receive a Certificate of Completion for the amount of mindfulness series completed (3 or 5) and signed by mindfulness instructor. In addition, parent(s)/caregiver(s) will receive email with Mindfulness Resources to help encourage their child to keep practicing + learning! Lastly, parent(s)/caregiver(s) are welcome to continue to reach out to instructor post-completion with any ongoing questions or ideas to help their child practice their mindfulness skills!
